Meta’s Oversight board is getting smaller.
An unknown number of “targeted cuts” are coming to staffers who support the 22-member board that polices the world’s largest social media network. Launched in 2019, Meta has contributed $280 million to keep the board operational through 2025... which is a lot for a company that just emerged from its “ year of efficiency. ”

Epic says Fortnite is returning to EU iPads.
The announcement follows the EU’s ruling to treat iPadOS the same as iOS , allowing residents to download apps from outside the Apple App Store, uninstall preloaded apps, and select default services like browsers from choice screens. iPad and iPhone users outside of Europe will have to continue streaming Fortnite through a browser.

YouTube TV multiview is rolling out on Android devices.
The split screen feature that pulls in up to four channels at once launched on smart TVs last year , and iOS last month — now it’s Android’s turn. Google spokesperson Allison Toh confirmed to The Verge that the launch started today , and said it’ll roll out to all Android phones and tablets over the next few weeks.

Paramount Plus now has over 71 million subscribers.
In addition to announcing CEO Bob Bakish’s departure , Paramount said its streaming service added 3.7 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2024, some of whom probably signed up to watch the Super Bowl LVIII.

Missing physical buttons in cars?
Xiaomi appears to sell a whole galaxy of products that includes a row of physical buttons (listen to that satisfying click!) that installs directly under the central display of the SU7, its newly released EV . It’s a pretty interesting approach to aftermarket sales that, as this Threads user points out, seems ripped straight from the company’s smartphone playbook.
Mastodon becomes a US nonprofit.
CEO Eugen Rochko says the fediverse app has established a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the US in order to receive tax-deductible donations. Mastodon was previously based in Germany until the government there pulled its nonprofit status with “no advance warning or explanation,” according to Rochko. The board for the five-person US nonprofit includes Twitter cofounder Biz Stone.

This EV prototype charges from 10 to 80 percent almost as fast as a gas fill-up.
The prototype Polestar 5 uses an “Extreme Fast Charging” 77kWh EV pack, created in conjunction with company StoreDot, that can add 200 miles of range in 10 minutes. A Tesla would take about 15 minutes at many convenient Supercharger locations.
Polestar noted charging rates rose from 310kW at 10 percent charge to a blistering 370kW at 80 percent, and no special cooling equipment is needed.

Recently we suggested Boston Dynamics should enshroud its bots in some kind of hair . Today Boston Dynamics showed off a costume for its Spot robot that is festooned in blue, sparkly fur.
I’m sure its just a coincidence, but if not, thank you for listening Boston Dynamics. The bots are indeed less terrifying when they look like giant puppet dogs or some kind of adorable CGI render.
